Copse is currently closed...we will advice of
any update on this ministry
Copse Place of Safety is a residential home for boys ages
8-18. There are approximately 70 boys living there at any
given time. The typical stay at COPSE varies greatly. A boy
may be there for only a few weeks or several years.
Boys are placed at Copse POS either because
1) their family was abusive or neglectful 2) they have become
unruly and their family sent them away 3) they have been in
trouble with the law.
Boys younger than 8 years old are sometimes
placed at Copse POS although it is not the best situation
for young children. Although Copse POS does meet the 10:1
child to worker ratio that has been regulated by the government,
the boys there are generally not well supervised.
The Copse POS facility is fairly run down. Recently,
the government did a major overhaul of management for all
the state run children homes. Mr. Rowe took over management
of the campus in June 2005. He has taken a renewed interest
in bettering the care that boys get at Copse POS and is working
to restore the buildings as well.
How you can help COPSE Place of Safety
Sponsor a project to better the campus.
Get involved by either raising money to restore facilities
or ask for a specific project that you can send a team to
help with.
Mr. Rowe has requested people with counseling
skills, motivational speakers, hygenine clinics, and workshops
discussing how to set and achieve goals for the boys.
Work with Jamaica Link to sponsor a day
at the beach for some of the boys
Spend a day or several days at Copse POS:
you are welcome to come visit and play with the boys.
