| Early in
August a group from Zion Lutheran Church in South Dakota was
in Jamaica doing work at various children's homes including
Copse Place of Safety, a government operated home for boys
ages 8 and older. While at Copse, several people in the group
met and became interested in a specific young man. Kevin,
who is 19 years old, has lived in government homes since he
was 4 year old. One of the first things you learn during a
conversation with Kevin is that he is interested in computers.
After talking with Kevin and interviewing his
guidance counselors, the group from Zion Lutheran decided
to raise support to fund a sponsorship so Kevin could return
to school and be certified in Information Technology. Their
church family responded well to this opportunity and as of
September 12th Kevin begins school at the New Era Business
Institute in Montego Bay.
Jamaica Link is facilitating this sponsorship
by distributing the sponsorship funds as directed by the Zion
Lutheran Church and by making the Internet service available
at our headquarters so Kevin can stay in touch with his sponsors.
As the in-country contact, Jamaica Link is acting as a liaison
between the school and the sponsors so they can monitor his
progress as the school year goes by.
